Following my high school graduation, I was planning to study electronics and wanted to gain some experience in the IT area. After researching PPD and interviewing with the team for an IT service desk internship, I knew the role would train me for a future career. I was also excited about the idea of joining a company that helps develop life-changing therapies.
Being an intern for PPD was a great experience from the start. During orientation, I was initially intimidated, as I had limited work experience and wasn’t sure what to expect from my fellow interns. I had to continually reassure myself that PPD had selected me for a reason. I was determined to make the most of what I knew was a great opportunity.
The onboarding process went smoothly and my colleagues were eager to help me understand the training materials, guidelines and workflow, while patiently answering my many questions. My work as an intern for the service desk had its own responsibilities, as we are the first line of support. I serve as the initial step, which is important in determining the timeframe an issue or request will be processed. I was proud that I played an active role in reducing the overall capacity of the work, which was my main goal.
During my internship, I improved my decision-making abilities and actively applied my IT knowledge in a work environment. Plus, I met lots of great people within my team and around the world.
As the end of my internship approached, I was thrilled to receive an offer for a full-time position on the service desk team. There is no guarantee of a job placement following an internship and I happily accepted the opportunity, which had the added benefit of allowing me to simultaneously continue my university studies.
