Roger Newbery, Ph.D.
Roger Newbery, Ph.D., serves as vice president of clinical transformation for PPD. In this role, he supports key initiatives for global clinical development and serves as the director and legal representative of PPD’s entities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Dr. Newbery joined PPD in 2004 as director of clinical operations management and was promoted to increasingly senior-level roles of accountability. He also served as senior vice president of integrated monitoring and investigator services (IMIS). In that role, he was responsible globally for in-country site monitoring and support teams, as well as centralized monitoring, administration and site payments, overseeing a 4,500 member clinical research team.
Dr. Newbery has more than 30 years of experience in clinical research. He spent 17 years at GlaxoSmithKline, Wyeth and Novartis and also worked as an academic researcher at the Brighton School of Pharmacy. Dr. Newbery has been involved in a number of U.K. and internationally focused initiatives, including the Pharmaceutical Industry Competitiveness Task Force (PICTF) and the model National Health Service and pharmaceutical industry clinical trial agreement.
Dr. Newbery earned a doctorate in gastrointestinal physiology from the University of Brighton, a postgraduate teaching certification from the University of Southampton and a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Leicester, all in the U.K.
