Participant Qualifications

  • Volunteers with mildly reduced kidney function 
  • 18+ years old 
  • This study requires melanin measurements to determine your Fitzpatrick Skin Scale (FSS) score. Click here to see the 6 skin types on the FSS to see what type you may be!  
  • Willing to abstain from nicotine use for the duration of the study. 
  • Must not have skin sensitivities to adhesives (e.g. Band-Aids, surgical tape) 
  • Must not have significant scaring, tattoos, or alterations in pigmentation on the upper chest 
  • Health status is further evaluated by reviewing medical history, screening assessments, and visit with physician 
  • Available and willing to commit to study visit structure – You will be asked to stay in our clinic for 1 night and return for 1 outpatient follow up visit. 

Study Information

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a transdermal sensor that works with a fluorescent tracer to evaluate kidney function 
  • Healthy volunteers and those that are pre-diabetic are needed at this stage of research. 
  • This is a research study and your participation is voluntary. You may stop participating at any time.
