Neuro Research Trials

Advancing Neurological Health

Volunteers for clinical trials are needed to determine how effective new potential treatment options are for diseases.

Studies cannot be completed to help advance research without help from volunteers who meet the study criteria. We are actively enrolling patients who have been diagnosed with neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, to complete trials with the goal of ultimately helping provide more treatment options and finding ways to slow the progression of these diseases.

Is it Safe to Participate in these Trials?

The staff at PPD is committed to making sure that you and your family are informed of all the potential risks and benefits for each trial. You will have the opportunity to speak with our trial physicians about the study and ask questions about any of your concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions:

This can vary, depending upon the nature and length of the study. Our goal is to make participation as convenient as possible for you. Some studies require several visits a week, some monthly and some less often than that, while others might require overnight stays. In some cases, transportation assistance may be provided to help you get to and from the clinic for study visits, or home health monitoring may be used to supplement in-person visits. Please call us at (689) 216-3100 to discuss the study you are interested in, and one of our study staff members can share the specific visit frequency requirements.

Not necessarily. We have memory loss studies for people with a healthy memory (preventative), mild memory loss and up to moderate to severe. We have trained staff who are able to provide a free memory test to determine where your current memory level falls.

Typically, yes. If you suspect you have Parkinson’s Disease, please ask your primary care doctor to refer you to a neurologist for evaluation. But you can always reach out to us to see what studies are available that may not require a diagnosis.

Yes. Memory loss/Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative studies often require a study partner, so we welcome caregivers!

Caregivers play an important role in a patient’s life and in research, as well! Pass along study opportunities and/or volunteer to be that individual’s study partner. Anyone with memory loss who wishes to participate in a clinical trial may need a study partner to accompany them to visits. Someone close to the patient who visits them regularly and can comment on their memory decline/status during the study is critical, since memory is subjective. Also, it is helpful if the study partner makes note of future study visits and instructions during the trial.
