About PPD
The PPD clinical research business of Thermo Fisher Scientific is a global clinical research organization (CRO) that helps advance the development of life-changing medicines for patients. Part of this research involves conducting clinical trials with patients and healthy volunteers to collect important data on new treatments under close medical supervision. We have three clinics to support early-phase clinical trials, with locations in Austin, Texas; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Orlando, Florida. Our state-of-the-art facilities have a successful history in conducting studies safely since 1985, and in the past five years alone, we’ve conducted more than 340 early development research studies involving more than 2,000 volunteers. Our experience in conducting first-in-human trials, definitive cardiac safety or QTC studies, and complex, procedure-intensive trials is unmatched.
What we do
Our clinical research sites recruit volunteers to participate in clinical trials and provide financial compensation to study volunteers who participate. These trials are designed to verify the safety and tolerability of an investigational drug in people and explore how the medicine acts in the bodies of healthy volunteers. All studies are fully supervised by medical professionals.
Why participate?
New medications help people every day. To be approved, those medications go through various research trials, and many of those trials require generally healthy people to participate. Your participation could benefit others by helping treatments get approved by regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Participation also is an easy way to earn extra income, while taking a break from everyday life.
Getting started
The process starts with a confidential phone conversation to discuss your pertinent medical information. You can call PPD or complete the form on any of our pages, and our staff will contact you at your preferred time. If you qualify for the study based on our phone conversation, you will be invited to our clinic for a screening visit. At the screening visit, you will be given many more details about the study and opportunities to discuss the study with our staff. If you are interested in proceeding into the study, we will complete your qualification assessment by performing a few procedures to ensure you meet the criteria for the study. Though each study will have unique qualifications, these criteria often include blood collection, vital-signs, ECG, and physical exam results.
Compensation
Volunteers in our research studies receive monetary compensation for their participation. The stipend amount varies by study but is generally based on the overall commitment required by our volunteers. Some studies may require staying in our facility for a considerable length of time, while others are more outpatient focused. Participants are informed before the study begins on the commitment expectations and how and when they will be paid.
