PPD Austin Clinical Trials Unit

Who can be a volunteer

Our clinical research unit in Austin, Texas, recruits and provides financial compensation to study volunteers who participate in clinical research trials.

Early development clinical studies, also called early phase clinical trials, are designed to verify safety and tolerability of an investigational drug in humans. Fully supervised by medical professionals, these studies explore how the medicine acts in the bodies of healthy and patient volunteers, specifically how the compound is absorbed, distributed, metabolized and excreted. These studies do not test to see if the medicine works.

PPD recruits clinical trial volunteers for a wide range of early development clinical studies. If you are generally healthy and age 18 or older, you may qualify to participate in a study.

You are not eligible for most clinical studies if:

  • You use tobacco products, illegal drugs or drink alcohol heavily
  • You are trying to become pregnant, are pregnant, have recently given birth or are breast-feeding
